Board of Directors

Charles Furman, MS, PCC 

President-Elect

Charles is the President of San Diego Leadership Institute, Inc., a Certified Executive Coach, a Vistage Chair, and the Founding President of the San Diego Chapter of the International Coach Federation. He is passionate about partnering with successful leaders who have a desire to achieve more than they ever imagined possible. He lives out his passion by working with business owners, CEOs, senior executives, and their teams to grow their businesses and become more effective leaders. Charles brings over 25 years of hands-on corporate experience spanning both the private and public sectors across in a wide variety of industries. He has held CEO roles and C-Suite positions and has also served on numerous Boards. Charles held a public service role for nine years where he served as Trustee of the Fremont Unified School District. Charles earned a BS degree in Organizational Behavior and an MS degree in Information Systems from the University of San Francisco, as well as a graduate degree in Banking/Finance from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. Charles received his Professional Coach Certification training from the Hudson Institute of Coaching in Santa Barbara, California. Charles is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credentialed through the International Coach Federation (ICF).

Felicia Lyon, MA

Secretary

Felicia is an accomplished human capital advisor and executive coach with 22 years of experience. She brings a hands-on approach – backed by leading practices – to develop effective solutions that drive her clients’ objectives. Felicia’s experience working at the intersection of business strategy, employee capability and motivation, and organizational culture brings a unique perspective in helping her clients plan for positive change, building a high performing organization. Her passion for helping business leaders succeed is woven throughout her approach of enhancing individual and organizational performance. Before launching her own business, Felicia worked as a senior leader with Deloitte Consulting where she helped her clients improve operational performance by focusing on the people side of the business. While at the firm, she held multiple internal leadership roles focused on building the capabilities and business acumen of consulting practitioners. After years of traveling and working across the globe in the US, UK, Russia, Afghanistan, and Mexico (among others), she seeks to bring that experience to make an impact in the San Diego business community. She also brings several years of experience working as a Human Resources Manager and understands first-hand the impacts of working within a company undergoing a large business transformation as her organization underwent two acquisitions within six months. Felicia serves as a Mentor with the Chairmen’s Round Table, founding Board Member of the San Diego Chapter of the International Coach Federation, and a member of the Association for Corporate Growth – San Diego, the Society for Industrial/ Organizational Psychologists, and the American Psychological Association. She holds a Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago and Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Georgia. When not working, you can usually find Felicia spending time with her life partner Neil near the beach, riding her Ducati motorcycle through San Diego, or testing her limits on the weightlifting platform.

Robert Little, ACC

Finance Chair

Robert (Bob) is pursuing his passion of helping individuals and organizations discover and successfully live out their passion, purpose, and destiny through coaching, mentoring and business consulting. Prior to coaching, Bob spent over 30 years in the power industry, with projects including construction of the Alaskan Pipeline, design and construction of various nuclear plants around the country and utility company operations. His experience includes project and program management, business planning and financial management, process re-engineering and improvement, organizational development, change management and strategic planning. Bob is accomplished in organizational and team dynamics. He was a senior manager for over 12 years with a Northern California utility company. Bob is a board member of several nonprofit organizations. Bob earned a BS Engineering degree from UC Davis and is a registered professional engineer. He received his Professional Work and Life Coaching certificate from UC Davis and is an ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC).

 

Brenda Beckett, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Brenda is a Senior Consultant at Beckett Consulting focused on Finance and HR Solutions and Total Rewards Strategies. Her 20 years of business experience with high tech, cleantech, biotech, and medical device companies and nonprofit organizations has focused on process improvement, leadership development, planning and aligning organizations to reach company goals. Brenda has her BA in Psychology from UCSD and various business certifications from UCSD Extension, including Finance Management, HR Leadership & Management, Marketing Management, and Fundraising and Development. She has additional certifications including SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Total Rewards Management and DISC. She is working on her MA in Organizational Leadership, and her ACC credential through ICF, she received her foundational training through the Coaches Training Institute (CTI). Brenda is President of the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, and a board member for North County Human Resources San Diego and the San Diego Chapter of the International Coach Federation.

Tamara Furman, MS, PCC

Tamara is the CEO and Co-Founder of SD Leadership Institute, an Executive Coaching, Leadership Development and Assessment firm that works directly with C-Suite leaders and their teams to resolve their most pressing leadership-related challenges. Tamara is passionate about partnering with successful leaders and their teams in support of exceeding their business goals, gaining alignment and communicating effectively, and creating a culture and legacy of choice rather than default. With over 20 years of hands-on experience, Tamara has successfully helped privately held, publicly traded and non-profit organizations in a variety of industries, such as financial services, sports and entertainment, professional services, healthcare, pharmaceutical, bio-technology, publishing, manufacturing, education, hospitality, electronics/technology, digital marketing, advanced education, food service, and retail/e-tail. Tamara graduated with her MS in Executive Leadership from USD and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS in Organizational Behavior from USF. She completed her coaching certification at the Hudson Institute of Coaching and obtained a Professional Certified Coach credential through the International Coach Federation (ICF). Tamara is a founding board member of the San Diego Chapter of the International Coach Federation. Additionally, Tamara is a Board-Certified Coach and is certified in and authorized to administer, train and coach on several assessment tools, including Predictive Index, Emotional Intelligence Bar-On EQ-i2.0, EQ360, TTI Success Insights DISC, Motivators, & Sales Skills Index, Insights Discovery, MBTI, FIRO-B and TKI Conflict Mode Instrument.

Alex Green, ACC

Alex is the President of Alex Green Associates, an executive development firm that coaches companies and nonprofit organizations to succeed by improving the effectiveness of their leaders, management teams and board of directors. Prior to launching his independent coaching business, Alex had been a key member of the senior leadership team at several multi-billion dollar investment management organizations. As an expert in leadership and disruption within the financial services industry, Alex has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News and Markets Media. He earned his executive coaching certification from the Center for Executive Coaching and is an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation. Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Philosophy from Union College.

Kelby L. Kupersmid, ACC

Kelby Kupersmid currently works at the Center for Creative Leadership where he manages all executive coaching programs in the Western U.S., Canada, and Latin America. He is focused on ensuring operational excellence from individual sessions to enterprise-level engagements with Fortune 50 companies. He also manages an ICF accredited Continuing Coach Education webinar series, which brings together dozens of coaches from around the world to further the practice and development of coaching worldwide.

Kelby obtained a BA in International Business from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Spanish and Latin America, and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Global Leadership at the University of San Diego’s School of Business. Kelby completed his coach training program through the Center for Nonprofit Management and Goldvarg Consulting Group and earned an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the International Coach Federation (ICF).

Lynn Levis

Communications and Technology Chair

Lynn is a skilled facilitator, dynamic trainer, and compassionate coach, at her best when helping
others learn and grow. Utilizing 15 years of experience across multiple industries and in
various roles, Lynn partners with professionals and leaders on their developmental journeys,
creating a customized approach to maximize each individual’s and organization’s experience.

A lifelong learner herself, Lynn is pursuing her PhD in Leadership Studies at the University of San
Diego, focusing on Organizational Leadership and Consulting. She earned her BA in Broadcast Communications from the University of Pittsburgh and her MPS in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University. Lynn completed her coach training via the Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching at Georgetown’s Institute for Transformational Leadership, and she is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC).

Arthur Schwartz, PCC

Community Programs Chair

Arthur integrates coaching, training, leadership, sales & marketing, technology, and business management to accelerate professional effectiveness and corporate revenue growth. Arthur is the President and Founder of Accelerant Coaching, a Certified Executive Coach, and a Professional Trainer/Coach, working with clients including Cisco Systems.

Arthur is a contemporary learner who combines extensive experience with emerging trends and the latest technology to spark innovative thinking and solutions. Arthur’s leadership roles, including VP and President, have spanned a variety of industries. His broad perspective comes from leading successful teams in corporations with revenue of up to $1 billion, while also working with many start-ups and small, entrepreneurial companies.

Arthur earned his BS from SUNY Cortland. He received his Professional Coach Certification training from GI Institute in New York City. Arthur is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC), credentialed through the International Coach Federation (ICF) and serves as founding Board member of the the San Diego Chapter of the International Coach Federation. He is a certified Practitioner of Conversational Intelligence (C-IQ). Arthur is also a practitioner of “Coaching with ROI,” a system designed to demonstrate quantitative and qualitative value to individuals and companies enrolled in coaching contracts or projects.

With 30 years of professional facilitation and training experience, Arthur has developed and facilitated training programs for hundreds of professionals in corporations with up to $1 billion in revenue. He also facilitated multi-day workshops for Sales Associates at Cisco Systems globally for the past 12 years, averaging 4.9 ratings on a scale where 5 is the highest.
